Hormones Aren’t A Root Cause, But This Is

Hormones are a hot topic right now. You keep hearing about perimenopause, adrenal fatigue, high cortisol, hormone testing, hormone replacement therapies.

You’re hearing over and over again that hormones are the answer to everything. So, you update your supplement routine and you’re still exhausted, still overwhelmed, still lying awake at night, still and snapping at the people you love.

You’re still wondering why all the supplements, greens powders, protein coffees, workouts, electrolytes, and hormone protocols are not changing how you feel.

Today I want to sit with you like we’re in my office together and we’re going to have the conversation I wish more people were having.

I’m not saying hormones don’t matter, they absolutely matter. But usually they’re not the starting point.

Hormones Are Often the Surface-Level Conversation

If you’re struggling with hormone symptoms, I am not dismissing them.

The symptoms are real, what frustrates me is how often people stop there.

They skip right to replacing hormones, adding hormone supplements, chasing cortisol, or buying more testing and protocols.

We need to be asking: what is happening underneath this?

Hormones are messengers, they respond to the environment they are living in.

If the foundation underneath them is unstable, your body is going to keep sending signals.

Does This Sounds Like You:

You feel overstimulated all the time, you’re mentally exhausted even when you’re not physically tired.

Sleep feels impossible because your brain will not slow down at night.

You wake up worrying and feeling anxious for reasons you can’t explain.

You’re lacking patience and guilt shows up because you feel short with your spouse and kids.

Everything feels harder than it used to. When you search for solutions you’re told to “balance your hormones.”

Friend, we need to have a deeper conversation.

The Pattern I Keep Seeing in Women

When women sit across from me, I often notice the same foundational patterns.

It starts like this skipping meals and pushing hunger aside, your day gets busy; meetings, kids need you, work piles up. You think:

“I’ll eat later.” Later comes and suddenly the snacking and cravings hit.

Something salty sounds good, maybe something sweet?

The evening turns into catch-up eating.

Running On Coffee Instead Of Nourishment

I understand this one deeply because I lived it.

At one point I was drinking multiple pots of coffee every day. Not cups, pots.

Coffee became survival, meanwhile my body was waving red flags.

You may be doing the same thing right now.

Coffee all day, but little nourishment while wondering why energy disappears.

You get used to grabbing convenience foods to survive the day like smoothies, bars, juices and drive-through meals. The problem with these foods is they are heavily carbohydrate-based while leaving protein and fats behind, creating blood sugar swings.

Your energy drops so your mood shifts, cravings increase and the cycle repeats.

Afternoon Crashes Are Bigger Than People Realize

People hear “afternoon crash” and imagine falling asleep at a desk.

That is not always what it looks like, but it does look like:

  • Irritability
  • Brain fog
  • Staring at the clock
  • Losing productivity
  • Emotional overwhelm
  • Reaching for snacks
  • Needing caffeine or sugar to keep going

That afternoon crash is information. Next, it’s time to ask: what system is asking for support?

Blood Sugar Is a System, Not a Diagnosis

This is the piece I need more women to understand: blood sugar is not the same thing as diabetes.

Diabetes is a diagnosis and blood sugar is a body system.

Your body runs on it, while your hormones, nervous system, mood, energy, and sleep respond to it.

Everything is connected so when blood sugar becomes unstable, your body moves into survival mode.

Stress hormones and cortisol increases while adrenaline activates and the nervous system feels uneasy.

Then life suddenly feels harder.

This can look like:

  • Feeling reactive
  • Being “touched out”
  • Needing constant stimulation or relief
  • Emotional eating
  • Evening wine becoming nightly wine
  • Cravings increasing
  • Motivation disappearing
  • Anxiety rising
  • Sleep getting worse

This is not only a hormone conversation, this is physiology.

Foundational Medicine Changes the Conversation

This is why I call what I do foundational medicine.

Think about the foundation of a house.

If you see a crack in the wall, nobody covers it with paint and pretends everything is fine.

An expert comes in, they investigate, and they ask questions. Why did the crack happen, and where did it start?

Health works the same way. The crack can be anything from hormones to mood swings, sleep issues or weight gain. The goal is finding what’s underneath.

What Happens When Blood Sugar Stabilizes?

When foundations improve, people often notice things changing naturally.

You’ll notice your moods becomes steadier, stable energy, improved sleep, brain fog lifts and cravings quiet down. Life stops feeling like constant survival, and you begin to feel back in control.

This is what happens when you support the systems that were asking for help all along.

Why I Created the Blood Sugar Bootcamp

I created the Blood Sugar Bootcamp because I got tired of watching people blame themselves.

I got tired of watching women think they failed whiling chasing solutions that never addressed the foundation.

This work matters because blood sugar affects:

  • Hormones
  • Energy
  • Metabolism
  • Mood
  • Inflammation
  • Sleep
  • Recovery
  • Brain health
  • Long-term wellness

Healing starts with understanding the system, then building stability; one step at a time.

If you’ve been trying everything and still feel like something is missing, maybe the next step is not another hormone protocol. Maybe it’s time to try rebuilding the foundation – it’ll change everything.
