Your Daily Choices Reflect Your Worship

When we talk about health, it’s easy to get caught up in diet plans, workout routines, or the latest wellness trends. But as Christians, we’re called to view our health as more than just a way to look good or feel better. It’s a reflection of our worship. Every choice we make about how we treat our bodies is an act of honoring God—or not.

Faith and Health Are Inseparable

Too often, we compartmentalize our faith, separating it from the choices we make for our bodies. But the truth is, our physical health and spiritual health are interconnected. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, we’re reminded that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. That means every decision we make, from what we eat to how we move, is an opportunity to honor God.

Are we making choices that bring glory to Him? Or are we treating our bodies carelessly, ignoring the responsibility we have to care for the temple He’s entrusted to us?

I know I am one who struggles with this. It’s all part of wrestling with the flesh- instant gratification and selfishness vs respect and worshiping our Creator. Looking at my body I can see the battle. Can you?

I see the faded stretch marks that have nothing to with pregnancy. Some that have been there since I was an overweight teen.

I feel the temptation drawing me to eating less nutritious food because those foods are easier. No one has ever said this life is easy. The people who are successful and have longstanding health and wellness continue to do the things that aren’t easy for a consistent amount of time… over and over again.

Yet that’s not shiny and exciting or providing instant gratification does it? We don’t have cheerleaders cheering us in drinking enough water every day. No one cares. Everyone does notice when you’ve put on weight or when you start to lose it.

I’m striving over here to make that a different world for you and me inside The Wilderness of Wellness.

How Daily Choices Reflect Your Worship

Every single day, we’re faced with choices. What we put into our bodies, how we move, how we manage stress, and even the thoughts we allow ourselves to dwell on. These choices either bring us closer to God’s design for us or pull us further away from it.

Think about it—what does it say about our worship when we overeat, rely on unhealthy habits, or neglect our health altogether? We’re effectively saying that we value our desires and comforts more than the body God gave us. But when we make decisions that prioritize health and wellness, we are actively choosing to honor God with our actions.

Practical Ways to Integrate Faith and Health

Here’s where we get into the action steps. It’s not enough to talk about faith and health—we need to live it out. Here are a few simple ways you can start integrating your faith into your wellness journey:

  1. Pray Before You Eat: Before meals, take a moment to thank God for the food you’re about to eat and ask Him to guide you in making choices that nourish your body and honor Him. I’d gotten to the point where I realized I was praying over breadsticks and asking God to nourish my body with breadsticks… Sure God can do anything, but what am I giving him to work with… breadsticks?! So instead I began praying over my meal planning. Letting my husband lead that guidance of reminding me to sit down and take time to figure out how to nourish us each week. Notice I said nourish, not feed. I grew up in a farming community and we talked about animal food as “feed.” We are not animals. I’m not feeding my family. I’m nourishing my family.
  2. Move with Purpose: Exercise shouldn’t just be about burning calories or losing weight. See your movement as an opportunity to steward your body well. Whether you’re going for a walk, hitting the gym, or stretching at home, do it with the mindset that this is worship. Even throw on some worship music while you’re moving. 10 minutes of movement is lapping the others on the couch, so don’t discount a small amount of movement either.
  3. Practice Gratitude: It’s easy to focus on what our bodies can’t do or how they don’t measure up to some societal standard. But a heart of gratitude shifts your focus. Start thanking God for your body’s ability to heal, move, and serve you every day.
  4. Renew Your Mind: Scripture tells us to renew our minds daily (Romans 12:2). This means being mindful of what you’re allowing into your mind and heart. Just as we feed our bodies with healthy foods, we must feed our spirits with God’s Word. What are you consuming—both physically and spiritually?

Taking Radical Responsibility for Your Health

At the end of the day, this comes down to radical responsibility. Are you ready to take ownership of your health, not just for yourself but as an act of worship to the God who created you? This isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up every day and choosing to honor God with your body, your choices, and your health journey.

When you start viewing your health as an integral part of your worship, everything changes. Your motivation isn’t just about fitting into a certain size or reaching a goal on the scale—it’s about glorifying God in every step you take. And that shift in mindset leads to lasting, meaningful transformation.
