When life feels like it’s pulling you in every direction, it’s easy to put your health on the back burner. But what if prioritizing your wellness isn’t selfish, but actually biblical? In this episode of the Crying in My Cheesecake Podcast, I, Dr. Danielle, dive into why taking care of your body is an essential part of glorifying God and fulfilling your purpose.
Why Neglecting Your Health Is Not Humility
It’s a common belief among women that taking time for themselves is selfish. However, Scripture tells a different story. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Paul reminds us, “You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” This means our health isn’t just about feeling good—it’s about stewarding the body God has entrusted to us.
Neglecting your health isn’t humility—it’s disobedience. Running on empty not only affects your body but also impacts the people you serve, the relationships you cherish, and the ministry God has called you to.
Three Steps to Prioritize Your Health Biblically
- Reframe Self-Care as Worship
Self-care isn’t about spa days or fancy outings. It’s about nourishing your body, mind, and spirit so you can glorify God. Think of rest, nutrition, and movement as acts of worship. For example:- Take a 15-minute walk.
- Prepare a nourishing meal at home instead of hitting the drive-thru.
- Pause to pray and breathe during stressful moments.
- Start Small, Stay Consistent
Big overhauls often lead to burnout. Instead, make one small shift today:- Drink more water.
- Go to bed 30 minutes earlier.
- Say no to one unnecessary commitment this week.
- Ask for Accountability
God designed us to thrive in community. Whether it’s a trusted friend, a coach, or a supportive program like Embrace, accountability helps you stay on track. In Embrace, you’ll find a safe space to develop sustainable health habits rooted in faith.
Breaking Old Habits and Building New Ones
Changing habits isn’t always easy. As someone who has struggled with overextending myself and emotional eating, I know firsthand how difficult it can be. But I’ve also seen the power of small, intentional steps to heal and grow.
Holistic health isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress. When you prioritize your wellness, you’re not just investing in yourself but in your ability to glorify God through your family, ministry, and calling.
