Adrenal Cocktails are a Scam and Here’s Why

In this episode, we dive into the hype surrounding adrenal cocktails and why they don’t deliver on their promises. These trendy drinks, often promoted by unqualified influencers, claim to combat stress by replenishing depleted minerals. However, they merely provide a temporary sugar rush and fail to address the real issues. Learn why true health improvements require genuine effort and lifestyle changes, not quick fixes. Discover how to make lasting changes that lead to real wellness without falling for gimmicks.

Welcome to the Crying in My Cheesecake podcast, where we are in pursuit of living life abundantly, not held back by our body size or symptoms, nor are we held back by our hurts, habits, or other obstacles in life. Learn the secrets to crush it in your health, wellness, relationships, and spiritual life. I am Danielle, your host and practitioner.

And in this episode, we’re going to talk about stress, maybe, and we’re going to talk about what annoys the ever living snot out of me about what’s going around on social media at the moment. Ladies. I don’t know if you follow me on Instagram. If you don’t, please go find me at cryinginmycheesecake. I am so tired of the tips and tricks and gimmicks and all of these things that are like just killing me.

And one of these things is the adrenal cocktail. There are people out there that have no credibility. There are people out there that are business coaches. There are, so there are business coaches. There are, um, people that are into fitness themselves. And there is no credential behind it. But they are telling everybody, because they have a big following, they’re following these trends on how to reduce stress in their women or whatever, okay?

And women are the market, like we are the market. We are the ones that are so desperate that we’re going to try anything to feel better, except for the things that take work. Am I, am I wrong? We are so desperate for change. We will do anything but something that takes work. And what I mean is something that takes work mentally.

Because, we have been taught to strive hard, so if you’re stressed, obviously we’re supposed to go work out, and our workouts, especially the more high intensity it is, the more, the better we are, and the more it looks like we’re working and trying hard to keep ourselves together. So, it’s not that we’re not going to work hard, and that’s not what I mean.

It’s that we’re not going to work hard mentally, and change our mindset. Because an adrenal cocktail, let’s talk about this real quick, because I just need to get this off my chest. There are people I adore, genuinely adore, that are promoting the Adrenal Cocktail and they are getting hundreds and thousands of followers from promoting the Adrenal Cocktail.

And you know why? Because they’re thin, lanky, have no muscle on their body. And yet there’s this cool gimmick that seems to really help with your energy. So I want to walk you through what an adrenal cocktail it is. It’s usually some form of juice, whether it’s, I mean, it’s always a natural juice, which don’t get me wrong, natural juice is probably better than juicy juice.

So it’s a natural fruit juice. Some salt potassium magnesium some either just plain, you know, sodium or salt. I’m sorry, or It has some potassium Magnesium some kind of a lick electrolyte thing okay, so the whole idea and the premise behind and an adrenal cocktail is to the theory behind it is to Um, bombard your body or give your body a bolus of electrolytes to help replenish the minerals that stress is depleting you from, which is very true.

Stress depletes your body of minerals and it is those three minerals that it typically depletes you from. Okay. The magnesium, the sodium and the potassium is usually what it does. It also can deplete you of calcium. It can also deplete you of phosphorus and magnesium. Other things as well, like things that are really important like chromium and copper and iron and lots of other things.

Okay, you see what I’m getting at here? It’s not just these three minerals. So that’s the first thing. But the idea behind it is that let’s, let’s replenish these minerals that are causing you to be depleted in the first place. Okay? So there’s usually some kind of, like I said, natural juice. And then there’s the electrolytes.

Those three minerals usually, and then there is some form of fat or whatever other take on there could be coconut milk, it could be a whole milk, it could be cream, whatever. Okay, and the idea is that fat, which is true fat, That allows you to absorb these nutrients, okay, these minerals. My problem is when you take an adrenal cocktail or you drink an adrenal cocktail, especially for my clientele who typically are very high stressed, if you’re high stressed, you already have insulin in, um, insulin resistance.

You’re experiencing insulin resistance and you don’t have to be overweight to have insulin resistance. Even dogs get insulin resistance, right? So you can have, um, have insulin resistance even no matter what weight you are, whether you’re diagnosed diabetic or not. And that’s a side note, 6. 0 is diabetes, type 2 diabetes, 6.

0, A1C. They’re now calling that barely prediabetic. Anyway, that’s a whole nother topic. So stress depletes our body of minerals. We think this adrenal cocktail is going to fix it. Except what the bolus does is increases your blood sugar, gives you that hit of energy, and then you actually pee out all of those, that sodium, salt, or sodium and potassium and magnesium anyway.

And why is that? Because when you’re in a stressed state, you don’t absorb your minerals. So throwing a ton of minerals into juice that is going to increase your blood sugar, which causes stress on the body, you are going to simply just feel extra energy from that sugar rush. You’re doing nothing for your body when instead, so that’s a tip or trick or a hack or a biohack, whatever you want to call it, the adrenal cocktail is.

And when we take that adrenal cocktail, we feel great, or some of us may get dizzy, or some of us may get really tired afterwards. And that’s because your blood sugar went up fast and then crashed and you’re exhausted. Those minerals did not go into your body. You peed them out. And so that is sadly. Why, why it makes me mad is one we’re hurting people by causing more insulin resistance issues, okay?

And then what also we’re doing is the more of these hacks that we send out there, the longer it takes for people to get healing, the longer it takes for people to find support, and the longer it takes for people to find less or more energy and less fatigue. to find better hormones, to find better blood pressure, to find better blood sugar, to find better weight, whatever it is.

These tips and tricks and hacks and all of that are holding people back. And when I hear over and over and over again, people coming into my office, whether virtual or whether in person, I hear them coming in here and they’re like, Oh my gosh, it’s been three days and I feel amazing with you. Oh my gosh, in two weeks, I feel like I’m healed.

Or not. But when you are constantly being bombarded and you are desperate for change, you’re desperate for hope, you’re desperate for this, not just, not just change, but you’re desperate for feeling alive again, That’s when you are sitting, a sitting duck, you are prey for these little hacks. And they seem so easy because you can just go to the grocery store and go grab all these things and go do it.

But anything where you have to drink something every day the rest of your life to feel more energy, uh, except for coffee, I mean coffee, I do not touch my coffee, I like just don’t touch my coffee. But if you need. That every afternoon, that’s not healing. You should be able to eat three meals a day, hydrate yourself with plenty of water.

You should be able to eat enough protein for your body’s needs. And you should feel amazing. You should be sleeping amazing. You should be able to manage your stress. And also, if you’re that stressed, I’m sorry, but there’s nothing an adrenal cocktail is going to do for your calendar. That’s called self control.

You’ve got to take care of your calendar. All right. If your stress is out of line because you’re running kids every which way, that’s also your fault. And it’s also causing stress on your kids having to go every which way. And then when you’re running through the drive thru because you’re stressed and don’t have time to make, quote unquote, time to make dinner, that’s your fault because you have no self control over that calendar.

Because your priorities aren’t in line. And I wonder if we are so attached to being busy and these hacks because we don’t actually want to change. I wonder if we are in a space where we feel like I don’t have time for this. And really what that means is that you’re dishonoring the gift of the body you get to live in.

You’re dishonoring those kids that you’re raising. You’re dishonoring the parents that you’re trying to help take care of. You’re dishonoring the community in which you’re serving. You’re dishonoring the people that you’re working alongside. You’re sacrificing your health for everything else. or making everything else be more important than your health.

That’s a problem. That’s a problem and that an adrenal cocktail can’t fix. The adrenal cocktail is not this secret thing that nobody knows about. But my problem is, it’s just like when I have other colleagues that are in similar spaces as me in this holistic realm and you walk into their office and their first visit is 600 and it’s a 90 minute visit, which I give a 90 minute visit too, but it’s a 90 minute visit and you walk away with labs, no protocols, no nothing to do, no task, no, no anything what to do.

You don’t know any answers. You have no answers when you walk out of that 600 visit. So then you go and then they give you, I’m like looking at tests right now on my shelf that I’ve not used. They give you a 500 GI MAP test, and that 500 GI MAP test isn’t necessary. What it is, is it’s fun data. What it is, is that it’s going to require you to pay 500 for a GI MAP plus another visit to go listen to the follow up on what has happened.

And then maybe, just maybe, at that visit is when you get a protocol. Maybe not. Or, my other colleagues like to do this. 600 and you are told don’t eat dairy and eggs. A practitioner needs to look at you and you deserve to be looked at as a whole being not boiled down to food and not boiled down to just labs.

Do I use labs? Absolutely. But a 9 blood test can tell me a lot more than a dang GI map can. A 500 GI map. Have I used them? Absolutely. I use them as a last, as a last resort. If I can’t find where this lingering symptom is and I can’t figure it out after we have worked through some things to begin with then I do it.

You know how many GI map tests I’ve run in the last three years? Two. Two. That’s it. One, because the person wanted it and two, Because the one was an underage child that was dealing with some very, very, very deep issues and all of the data showed me that I needed to run one. And even then I didn’t choose the 500 one to run, I ran the 200 one and it told me everything I needed to know.

So my thing of the matter is, you deserve to walk away from that first visit with answers. Answers for you. You don’t need to walk away with biohacks. You don’t need to be, Oh, this was another thing. Another gal came to me working on her fertility. Okay. And she has PCOS and all of this stuff. And she was crying at the end of our visit.

And I was like, Oh, what’s wrong? Like, what did I say? What happened? Are you all right? And she was like, no, I’m not okay. Because I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars at other practitioners offices. And they tell me that I need to get this water filter for my bathtub, I need to get this water filter for my kitchen, and I need to run these tests, and I need to do these things, I need to have these expensive supplements, and I’m not gonna, I’m not gonna lie, supplements are expensive, but you don’t need to be on vitamins and mineral supplements usually.

The only mineral that I recommend everyone, almost everyone, especially in the Western culture have is magnesium glycinate or glycinate. I don’t know how to say it, but magnesium glycinate. And then my favorite is the one from Amazon. It’s called Z H O U brand Z H O U. And it’s around 18 now. Thanks inflation.

It was only like 15 to 16, but go grab it on Amazon. I’ll even link it down below for you. But zoo magnesium is the only thing I recommend people take before bed. Work your way up to four capsules. And I think it’s important to know that when you, when your organs are working properly, which means that your cells are working properly, your body works properly.

And again, we live in the Western culture. We don’t need to supplement with a ton of vitamins because if you’re B deficient, that tells me that your liver is backed up. Tells me you might have parasites. If you are D deficient, that tells me your liver is backed up. You’re probably constipated, probably have dysbiosis in your guts.

It’s, it’s not anything, it’s not something that you need to have a supplement for or take an adrenal cocktail for. If your blood pressure is off, you probably have toxicities that need to be addressed. You probably have a sluggish liver, you probably have insulin resistance. Those things need to be addressed, not band aided.

And if this is something that you would love to work through and you want some more support with, there are two ways in which you can work with me. One is my new patient package. My new patient package includes a, an initial consultation, Which is about 60 to 90 minutes long. And then it includes if we need to order labs, I will send all, take all of that.

I don’t make you come back for a lab visit. I will just send you all of the information that you need and all of those updates. And then you have a follow up visit with it as well. So that’s all included in the new patient package plus four months portal access to me. It’s going to be very highly customized, very just, um, very mentorship like.

And it’s very much working alongside you to make sure that your body is working properly. The second way to work with me is, is this community, the wilderness of wellness. It is only for women, but the wilderness of wellness is for women. And it is for, uh, women who are Christians who love Jesus, who want to honor their body and want to do so in community with others.
